Gallatin Valley Native

Nyx was born and raised here. She knows this community, the vets in town, and the kinds of dogs Bozeman families bring home. This isn't a chain — it's a neighbor who loves dogs.

Grooming Since 2016 Secret Paw opened 2019

Hi, I'm Nyx.

Nyx Quinn — Montana native, dog lover, Fear Free believer

I grew up in the Gallatin Valley and never left — because honestly, why would you? I've been grooming dogs professionally since 2016, and in 2019 I opened The Secret Paw because I wanted to do it on my own terms: one dog at a time, no chaos, no shortcuts.

The Fear Free certification was a turning point for me. It's a whole approach to animal handling built around recognizing stress signals and adjusting your technique in real time. A lot of groomers have never thought twice about this. For me, it's the foundation of everything I do — especially with anxious, reactive, or senior dogs who've had bad experiences elsewhere.

I see the same dogs week after week, year after year. I know which ones need extra patience, which ones love the blow dryer, and which ones just want it to be over. That consistency matters. I'm not going anywhere.

Dog: Rosie, 4-year-old Goldendoodle
★★★★★

Rosie used to shake the entire car ride to the groomer. After her first appointment with Nyx, she was calm and happy. Nyx knew exactly how to handle her anxiety — she mentioned specific Fear Free techniques she used and explained everything. I literally cried a little.

Dog: Bear, 8-year-old Labrador
★★★★★

Bear's 8 years old and starting to have joint issues. Nyx noticed he was uncomfortable standing for long periods and adjusted the whole appointment to work around it. She sent me home with a wellness report that flagged something on his coat I hadn't noticed — sure enough, vet found a small skin infection. Unreal attention to detail.

Dogs: Pesto + Basil, Mini Schnauzers
★★★★★

We have two Schnauzers who needed very different grooming styles and Nyx nailed both of them. She takes her time, doesn't rush, and you can tell she genuinely cares about the dogs. The fact that it's one dog at a time means she focused entirely on each of ours. We're not going anywhere else.

Dog: Luna, 2-year-old Husky
★★★★★

Tried three other groomers in Bozeman and none of them could handle Luna's shedding the way Nyx does. The deshedding treatment made an unreal difference and she came home smelling amazing and genuinely relaxed. Nyx is clearly doing something different than everyone else. Book her now before she's fully booked out for months.

Common Questions

Can't find your answer? Call or email — Nyx is happy to chat before you book, especially for first-timers or dogs with special needs.

(406) 555-0755
What vaccinations are required?
All dogs must be current on Rabies and Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccinations before their appointment. Please bring proof of vaccination or have your vet send records directly. Puppies must have completed their full puppy series and be at least 16 weeks old.
What happens during the first visit?
First visits are all about getting to know your dog. Nyx will take extra time to let your pup explore the space, get comfortable with the tools, and establish trust before anything begins. There's no rush. She'll also do a full consultation to understand your dog's history, any sensitivities, and the style you're going for. First visits may take a bit longer — that's intentional.
Do you groom anxious or senior dogs?
Yes — this is actually Nyx's specialty. Her Fear Free certification specifically prepares her to work with anxious, fearful, reactive, and senior dogs. She uses calming techniques, takes breaks when needed, and adjusts her approach to each individual dog. If your dog has had trauma around grooming or needs extra patience, Secret Paw is the right place. Just mention it when you book so Nyx can plan ahead.
How long does a grooming appointment take?
Because Nyx works with one dog at a time from start to finish, appointments typically run 1.5 to 3 hours depending on breed size, coat condition, and service type. Large or matted coats will take longer. You'll get a time estimate when you book. Since there's no crate waiting involved, your dog is actively being worked on the whole time — not sitting in a kennel for 4 hours waiting for a spot on the table.
What's the cancellation policy?
Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Because Nyx works one dog at a time, last-minute cancellations leave a significant gap in the schedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to a 50% service fee. Life happens — just communicate early and we'll work it out.
Do you groom cats?
Not at this time. The Secret Paw specializes exclusively in dogs, and Nyx keeps her focus there to maintain the highest quality service. If you're looking for cat grooming in the Bozeman area, she's happy to point you toward someone she trusts — just ask.
